The Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Davor Bunoza, and the Minister for the Presidency, Justice, and Parliamentary Relations of the Kingdom of Spain, Félix Bolaños, held a bilateral meeting after which they signed a joint Statement on Cooperation and Exchange of Experiences and Best Practices in the field of justice.
Minister Bolaños praised Bosnia’s progress on its path to EU membership and emphasized how Spain’s governmental structure could offer valuable insights for Bosnia’s complex system. He reaffirmed Spain’s support for Bosnia’s EU integration.
Minister Bunoza expressed gratitude for Spain’s continued friendship, recalling its support during the war, and highlighted the importance of learning from Spain’s advanced digitalization in justice systems to enhance Bosnia’s judicial reforms.
The Joint Declaration aims to bolster Bosnia’s EU accession process and strengthen mutual trust between the two nations. It underlines the importance of rule of law, judicial independence, and public confidence in the legal system—key principles for Bosnia’s EU integration, particularly under Chapters 23 and 24 of the EU accession process.
Both ministers agreed that meeting fundamental standards in judicial efficiency and quality is essential to ensuring the rule of law and safeguarding citizens’ rights. The signing was part of the EU4Justice project, supported by the European Union, aiming to align Bosnia’s judicial system with European standards.
The signing of the Memorandum was organised within the framework of the EU4JUSTICE project, which is implemented with the financial support of the EU with the aim of harmonising the BiH judicial system with the European standards, and it was attended by the Ambassador of BiH to the Kingdom of Spain, HE Vesna Andree-Zaimović, as well as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to BiH, HE Maria Molina Álvarez Toledo.
