EU4 Justice Project welcomes Mr Damien Romestant, new Team Leader. This change was caused after Ms Isabelle Arnal, former EU4Justice Project Team Leader was asked to take over the Prosecutors’ Office of an oversea French territory, as Chief Prosecutor.
After the Covid-19 pandemic began in March 2020, the project team based in Sarajevo with EU experts had to reinvent the project work in such a way that it would allow the continuation of work with judges, prosecutors, police investigators in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to boost effectiveness, integrity and professionalism, our work continues under new conditions – stated Mr Romestant.
He also added that the project will continue working with the entire justice chain in criminal matters in BiH focusing on how to improve current practices and the results in the matters of seizure and confiscation of criminal assets and how to improve access to criminal cases of the investigation services, prosecutors’ offices and courts.
Mr Damien Romestant, PhD. in Law from the University of Montpellier (France), began his career in Romania where he oversaw the justice and home affairs sector within the French Embassy as part of the pre-accession to the European Union. He then joined the Academy of European Law (ERA) in Germany where he managed several European projects dedicated to the training of judges and prosecutors from the European Union, particularly in the area of criminal justice, including mutual legal assistance matters.
Since 2007 Mr Romestant has carried out several missions in the field of governance, including the Balkans, as well as in Africa and the Middle East and has developed robust expertise in the field of the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML-TL CAMS certified), and the fight against corruption. More recently, he was the team leader of the project for the reform of justice in Egypt (SMAJ – 2015-2019) and coordinates the support and support project for justice reform in Algeria (PASJA – 2019-2020)).
