Corruption is a global threat to democracy affecting all countries. It is a dynamic social, political and economic phenomenon. It is particularly detrimental to any society as it weakens its democratic institutions, slows economic growth and leads to instability of government.
By distorting electoral procedures, perverting the rule of law and constructing bureaucratic quagmires whose only justification for remaining is the solicitation of bribes, corruption assaults the pillar of democratic institutions. As foreign direct investment is discouraged and small businesses within the country frequently find it difficult to resolve the start-up costs needed because of corruption, economic growth is stunted. As a global threat corruption is calling upon a collective response relying on strong international cooperation.
In that regard, the EU4Justice Project: Support to the Fight against Organised Crime and Corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues its mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina by confirming its general objective which is to enhance the effectiveness, integrity and professionalism of institutions in the Rule of Law sector.
The EU4Justice is continuously working to improve the cooperation between prosecution and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to increase the efficiency of investigations in organised crime and corruption cases for a more effective response to serious crime.
In the forthcoming period, the Project will particularly focus on fulfilling its set objectives which include as follows:
- Enhanced efficiency of investigation and prosecution of organised crime and corruption cases (OC & C),
- Reinforcement of integrity, human and performance management, and accountability of the justice sector institutions.
In implementing its activities in the anti-corruption fight, which is a joint endeavor, the EU4Justice Project has the support of its stakeholders and beneficiaries across the whole country, promoting integrity, accountability and impartiality within the judiciary as shared European values.
