EU4Justice with CEST FBIH organised a Round Table “Communication of Prosecutors with Media and Public” in Sarajevo.
It is observed that the prosecutors are often the subject of media controversial comments for numerous reasons. Many citizens voice their complaints about the functioning of the judicial system and the prosecutors’ decisions as well. In order to anticipate these kinds of situation and respond to them when necessary, the prosecutors should be able to inform the public objectively about their actions and results in respect of fundamental principles, presumptions of innocence and the law in BiH. We are of the opinion that the informing mission needs to be integrated as a part of the vital activity of the prosecutors’ office.
This Round table is a one-day and a half exchange of views with our key speaker Ms Jocelyne Randé, who is in charge of Communication and Promotion of Partnerships for the “Inspection générale de la justice “at the Ministry of Justice of France. Among her many former duties Ms Randé was Director of the communication of “Radio France“ (2002-2006); also Director of Information and Communication for “Le Conseil d’État” that is the highest Court in administrative matters, and Director of Communication for the” General Secretariat for the Modernization of Public Action (SGMAP) – Prime Minister’s Services, and Director of Communication for the Ministry of Justice.
Mr Admir Arnautovic, the Spokesperson of the Cantonal Prosecutors Office of Tuzla Canton shared the communication experiences from the perspective of his office.
The aim of the event is to share good practices from EU countries but also to identify good communication experiences in BiH. The presentation will entail to address the following topics: the organisation and the benefits of a communication strategy and how to develop it; the relations with media including how to be proactive communicator; an overview of communication tools (including but not limited to web sites; social media; press release); and the communication during high profile cases and the communication crisis management
Participants at the event are Chief Prosecutors from Prosecutors’ Offices across Bosnia and Herzegovina and their spokespersons, as well as representatives of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tomorrow, the “communication crisis” will be discussed. Two journalists will exchange with the participants on “better understanding media, what are journalists’ expectations – working together to provide the necessary information to the public”.
