A thematic working meeting on Discussion on Internal Coordination Mechanism in Prosecutor’s Offices in Regards to Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime, was held in Sarajevo on March 6th bringing together approximately 50 prosecutors and other relevant stakeholders. The event was organized under the EU4Justice project in cooperation with the Department for Judicial Analytics and Reporting of HJCP BiH with objective of discussing the reporting format of prosecutor’s offices to the HJPC BiH.
In September 2024, the HJCP of BiH adopted Guidelines for Chief Prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Republic Prosecutor’s Office of RS, Federal Prosecutor’s Office of FBiH and Prosecutor’s Office of BD BiH on issuing a General Obligatory Instruction to establish an Internal Coordination Mechanism in PO’s concerning the forfeiture of proceeds of crime. Following the online meeting, which aimed to introduce the normative content and implications of the HJPC Guidelines, as well as operative and technical modalities, the need for an in-depth working meeting was recognized.
This meeting provided participants with an opportunity to discuss internal coordination mechanism, ensure a harmonized and consistent approach to its application within the BiH judiciary, and explore best practices and effective models for implementation. This internal coordination mechanism involves the appointment of operative team consisted of prosecutor and chief of registry. It also facilitates the collection, analysis and data verification on temporary / permanent confiscated assets, while establishing legal standards for guiding criminal policy in cases involving assets acquired through criminal activity. This meeting represents an additional step in the EU4Justice project, funded by the EU, in collaboration with the HJCP of BiH and prosecutor’s offices aimed at strengthening the judiciary across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
